Our World In Data recently published findings on how Americans spend their time by who they spend it with.
The nearly linear increase in time spent alone is interesting and was a major focus of the article. Rohan (h/t to him for pointing out the survey) noted this trend as “the single best argument made for the importance of self-compassion.”
I was more interested in (and heartened by) the “Time spent with a partner” category. Not everyone is so lucky as to have a partner. But one lesson to take from the chart is that if you are so lucky, you will have someone by your side through the years - even while friends, family, children, and coworkers become scarcer.
That’s pretty special.
